Celebrating Bukharian Jewry with Ruben Shimonov, Scholar and Artist in Residence

Ray Maisel z"l Global Jewish Diversity Shabbat at Adat Shalom Synagogue, November 22 to 24, 2024

This weekend will honor the legacy of Ray Maisel z”l a Bukharian Jew who served Adat Shalom as a lay leader for decades. Our first “Global Jewish Diversity Shabbat” will feature scholar and artist Ruben Shimonov. Ruben, born in Uzbekistan, is an educator, community builder, and social entrepreneur passionate about Jewish diversity and intercultural understanding. He has lectured around the world on the histories and cultures of Sephardic and Mizrahi communities.


Friday night - reception with wine and cheese, dedication of The Rachel Elias Maisel Burkharian Textile Collection at Adat Shalom, Shabbat Rocks, Dinner and presentation about Ruben Shimonov


Saturday morning - Shabbat morning service, Shabbat Torah Study, Kiddush and learning with Ruben Shimonov.


Saturday night - young adult Havalah, Wine and Paint with Ruben Shimonov in partnership with The Well


Sunday morning - congregation wide learning and art project with Ruben Shimonov
