On October 15 at 6:30 pm, join us at the Museum for a special screening of the documentary film Après Coup. This moving film explores the persistence of trauma among adults who survived genocide as children.

Through the accounts of orphans of two genocides separated by half a century - the Shoah in France and the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda - this film questions the transmission of memory and resilience in the face of indescribable loss. What can they say to each other today? How did they overcome the absence of their parents and the profound loneliness left by the tragic events that marked their lives?

In November 2019, Susan Solomon and Amélie Mutarabayire-Schafer brought together three survivors of the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda and three orphans of the deportation of Jews from France during the Holocaust for a discussion. This intimate dialogue, filmed at the Shoah Memorial in Paris, is a world first. Beyond the genocide itself, they share their experiences afterward / “après coup”: the difficulties of rebuilding, the invisible wounds, and the search for roots in a world transformed by loss.

The film is in French, with English subtitles. The screening will be followed by a bilingual Q&A with co-director Susan Solomon.

Tickets are pay-what-you-can.
