Let's come together for the first ever Metro- Detroit Jewish Senior Prom at the former Durfee Middle School! Durfee Middle School had a large Jewish student population in the 40s-80s and has been repurposed into a community hub for non-profits (including Repair the World) and will surely spark many memories of the past.
On June 9th from 2-4pm we will welcome seniors community wide and residents from JSL to nosh, dance, and take part in a memorable occasion! To celebrate the beauty of our Jewish history and highlight intergenerational community we will welcome all (9th grade and up) to join in on the fun and support such an incredible moment!
As part of the festivities, guests will have the chance to enjoy kosher treats while reminiscing about the past and sipping on nostalgia in the historic setting (some of whom will surely be Durfee alums)! School dance attire is totally welcomed but not required! Reboot will be plugging in their Silver Screen Studio project, offering attendees the opportunity to share and compare their childhood stories and Repair the World will have a service project opportunity focused on literacy equality in Detroit to honor the value of Tikkun O'lam.
This event will not be possible without the support of volunteers, we ask that if you are attending as a non-senior attendee, and are able to, please sign up as a attendee that can volunteer, volunteer roles will be specified in a sign-up genius prior to the event. All attendees that volunteer will still have the chance to enjoy the event, nosh, dance and socialize as roles will be in shifts. Some of these tasks will include: event set up, clean up, greeting/assisting seniors into the building, keeping the groove going on the dance floor, and more!
