Let Miki, our guide, take us through this exhibition of works that reflect, often with humour, the social, historical, and political events that defined the 1950s to the 1970s. The Pop Art of such icons as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein are displayed alongside Canadian artists’ Pop sculptures, textiles, and drawings: works characterized by bright colours, flatness, brand-name consumer products, celebrities and comic-book heroines and housewives. These pieces, many rarely or never before shown, underscore the pervasive infiltration of commercialism, technology and the media into our urban environment. All will be enjoyed from the comfort of the Cummings Centre.
