YIDDISH FILM NIGHT: "UNCLE MOSES" (1932)

Hosted by

All Ages

Free with Detroit Historical Museum admission! Help us celebrate our ongoing exhibit, "In the Neighborhood," with the Yiddish film classic, Uncle Moses (1932). Includes brand-new English subtitles.

When poverty and persecution compel his Polish landsmen to leave their shtetl, "Uncle" Moses, the crude and lusty former butcher, welcomes them to the promised land of his Lower East Side clothing factory. But is it the land of milk and honey for all? On loan from the National Center for Jewish Film, this famous and entertaining Yiddish talkie (based on Shalom Asch’s novel and starring Maurice Schwartz). Supported by the Sholem Aleichem Institute Yiddishkeit Programming Fund.
