Passover Printmaking: A Linocut Workshop

Hosted by

Ring in the Passover season by learning a new skill! Join us for a workshop on linocut printmaking.

On April 7, Damián Birbrier will facilitate a 3-hour workshop, which will instruct guests on how to design, prepare, and produce their own prints using the linocut technique, otherwise known as block printing. With Passover just around the corner, this workshop will be geared towards creating a cover for your Haggadah – though guests are more than welcome to create prints for other purposes.

Damián will guide guests through a brief history of illuminated Haggadot, demystify why this text is embellished with figurative illustrations while no other Jewish text is, and show some of the most bizarre, beautiful, and iconic Haggadot from around the world.

Guests will be provided with all the materials necessary to create one linocut design and produce two prints. An image bank of traditional motifs and symbols will also be available to provide inspiration and guidance. Guests will also be able to keep their linoleum blocks for future use.

All are welcome to join! Please note that due to the dexterity skills required for this workshop, children should be supervised by an adult.

Tickets are $35 plus tax. Capacity is limited and pre-registration is required for all who wish to attend.

Accessibility: Please note that the upper levels of our building are not accessible to visitors with limited mobility. This workshop will take place on the ground level.
