Join the People's Yeshiva of Mile End for our last (for now) gathering at the Museum of Jewish Montreal for an evening of discussion and connection with special guest Rabba Briah Cahana!
Abraham, famously, kept his tent open to the strangers wandering the desert. What do the Rabbis of the Talmud have to say about this hospitality at the heart of Judaism? Was ‘desert hospitality’ foundational to Judaism? And if so, what does this ancestral gift mean for us, now?
Join Rabba Briah Cahana and Joseph Rosen in a Talmudic reading and discussion about how to cultivate an ethos of Abrahamic hospitality and build community. In a society that idolizes individuality, what is the importance of opening our tents to others, and feeding the stranger?
As usual, we’ll read, study in small groups, & discuss. The only thing we don’t debate is providing great snacks & refreshments. All welcome - no previous experience with Talmud needed!
~ About The People's Yeshiva ~
This event is the last of the current round of The People’s Yeshiva of Mile End—a series of participatory study sessions, curated by Joseph Rosen, where we dig into the Talmudic tradition in order to see how its ancient resources might have surprises to offer the contemporary world. A guiding premise of the series is that Rabbinic innovation happens not through rejection or criticism of the past, but by means of subversive interpretation.
~ About Rabba Briah Cahana ~
Rabba Briah Cahana graduated from Maharat in 2023 and is now Director of Member Care & Outreach at Shaar Hashomayim in Montreal..
