Come participate in this heartfelt traditional women's ritual for the Days of Awe. We will be measuring out wicks around the graves of people in the cemetery who we wish to honour or remember, and then making beeswax candles while placing into each candle blessings for the living as well as the dead. This is also a good place to process grief and remembrance in community, or to support those who are doing so.
We aim to respect the history of this tradition as one of mutual support and co-leadership for women in Eastern Europe who were marginalised from much of religious ritual and leadership, while at the same time creating expansive space for the wide range of gender and life experiences within our community. As such, we are asking for people who are able to fully participate in and be fully accepted within Orthodox male ritual spaces, as their complete selves (with some exceptions, this means straight, cisgender men), to refrain from attending this event. All others are welcome and we will assume that everyone who arrives belongs there. If you have any questions about this, please contact us.
