The Museum of Jewish Montreal and Rabbi Adina Lewittes invite you to take part in a special evening that combines spirituality and care for nature along the trails of Mont-Royal.
Long before God was locked up in temples, synagogues, churches and mosques, people encountered the holy in the awesome outdoors: by the side of a river, on top of a mountain, in a lush valley, or in a shaded forest. Long before prayer books and hymnals, people prayed from their hearts and spoke to the Divine from their souls.
Shackled to our desks and our devices, we've forgotten and become alienated from the spiritual power of the outdoors. Nature, with all its majesty and its mystery, summons us to pay more attention - to ourselves, to others, to the world around us. Free and unconstrained by all that makes demands on us in our modern, tech-saturated lives, nature reminds us of the freedom within us all to become who and what we wish. With our planet in peril and the future of our civilization in question, it has never felt more urgent to rekindle our connection to the Earth and to recentre its wellbeing alongside our own.
Join Rabbi Adina Lewittes for a 90-minute intentional walk along the trails of Mont-Royal. As the day winds down, we'll pause seven times to consider a piece of deep Jewish wisdom about our relationship to the created world. Seven is a powerful number in Judaism, one that signals the holy work of creating; one that invites wholeness or completeness. Enjoy time to reflect and connect as well.

ABOUT RABBI ADINA LEWITTES
Rabbi Adina "Dini" Lewittes founded Sha'ar, a values-driven Jewish community that for twenty years provided creative gateways into Jewish life exemplified by a commitment to spiritual, societal and environmental sustainability. Dini continues to build community around nature-oriented Jewish practice, and writes and teaches on the changing landscape of identity and belonging, on sexual and gender diversity, on evolving paradigms for Jewish ritual, and on contemporary Jewish Law. She is a leading Jewish voice on multifaith/multiheritage family engagement. Dini is a member of the senior rabbinic faculty of the Shalom Hartman Institute, of the Board of Trustees of Keshet for LGBTQ Equality in Jewish Life, and of the Heschel School in NYC.
