No matter what age group you teach, no matter what subject… teaching becomes a whole lot easier when your students have good executive functioning skills.
About the Book
Boosting Executive Skills in the Classroom K- 12 by Joyce Cooper Kahn, Ph.D., and Margaret Foster, MAed comes down to teaching your students a specific set of skills that have nothing to do with the subject you teach!
Anchored in the Response to Intervention framework, this book offers teachers specific strategies to help all students learn in an efficient manner, demonstrate what they know, and manage the daily demands of school.
About the Book Club
This teacher-led book club is moderated by Ariel Obadia a passionate and creative teacher at Belz Girls school.
Each week for 6 weeks, teachers read a chapter or two, discuss the contents and share ideas to translate what they read into their teaching practices.
Book Club Asynchronous Activities Include:
- Read 1 -2 chapters per week.
- Play a learning game to test your knowledge
- Post a personal reflection on the discussion forum.
- Respond meaningfully to another participant’s post.
Two virtual "Meet-ups" are scheduled at the middle and end of the book club. These "Meet-ups" offer the opportunity for teachers to elaborate on the ideas presented in the book and consolidate their understanding. Participants are polled at the beginning of the book club to determine the most convenient date and time to accommodate as many as possible.
To help enrich the reading experience and leverage the learning potential, teachers are encouraged to share additional resources related to the content. (videos, articles, books, websites, material, etc...).
10 PD hours are awarded to participants who complete the book club. A certificate of completion is provided to download and print.
