Music therapy is a creative arts therapy that uses music to promote well-being. It allows individuals to experience music in an empowering way and provides a great environment in which to work on social and communication skills, improving self-esteem, exploring and strengthening one’s identity, discovering new and creative ways to express yourself, addressing mental health concerns, and much more.
In group music therapy sessions, a safe space is created in which participants are encouraged to support one another as they engage in various music experiences. Music experiences in this context can resemble activities such as musical games, improvisation, song composition, sing-alongs, movement to music, music relaxation, and song analysis.
Music therapy is meant for anyone who enjoys music and is looking to discover new and creative ways of engaging in a form of self-care. No prior music knowledge or experience is required to participate in this type of group therapy.
