The Infodemic: Combatting the Spread of Misinformation Using Medicine, Media and Advocacy

Featuring Dr. Lipi Roy, MD, MPH, FASAM. Dr. Lipi Roy is a physician, keynote speaker, Forbes Contributor, sought-after medical media personality and host of the YouTube series, "Health, Humor and Harmony." She currently serves as a Medical Director at Housing Works in New York City as well as clinical assistant professor at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Roy’s work spans academia, clinical medicine, homeless health, social and criminal justice, public speaking, media and entertainment.


Join us as we welcome Dr. Lipi Roy as this year’s Forman lecturer. Dr. Roy will discuss how the pandemic has resulted in a resurgence of misinformation and disinformation that is easily and rapidly distributed on social media, the impact this can have on public health responses and its inevitable influence on the health of our communities. Now more than ever, it is important to understand the ways in which this information spreads, and how to develop strategies to curate messaging and guide the narrative with an ultimate goal of saving lives. It is incumbent for healthcare workers to educate the global community utilizing new innovative methodology and to develop strategies that incorporate traditional and newer communication techniques, including various social media platforms.


Dr. Roy is an internationally renowned expert on this topic and a dynamic public speaker and media personality whose mission is to educate and empower the public to make healthy decisions. She is a Forbes contributor and former MSNBC and NBC News Medical Contributor whose appearances include CNN, Dr. OzThe Tamron Hall Show, Charlie Rose and CBS New York. Her articles have been published in STATThe Huffington Post and Psychology Today; and she has been featured in The New York TimesBoston GlobeWall Street Journal, Cooking Light and Oprah.com. This event is open to the community, but it is specifically intended for healthcare professionals. 

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Beaumont Health and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit’s Maimonides Society. Beaumont Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
