Hosted by
All Ages
In this special one-hour virtual event, the Museum of Jewish Montreal and theatre dybbuk team up to celebrate the release of a new episode of the podcast, The Dybbukast, which explores the life and music of Jewish Moroccan music star and Montreal-based cantor, Samy Elmaghribi (1922-2008).
Born Salomon Amzallag, Samy's journey moves through a broad spectrum of time and space, giving us glimpses into moments in history that shaped generations.
Aaron Henne, artistic director of theatre dybbuk, will be in conversation with Yolande Amzallag, one of Samy's children, a professional translator, and the founding president of the Samy Elmaghribi Foundation, Dr. Christopher Silver, the Segal Family Assistant Professor in Jewish History and Culture at McGill University and curator at gharamophone.com, and Dr. Aomar Boum, Professor and Maurice Amado Chair in Sephardic Studies at UCLA.
