Calling all Jewish Detroit teens ages 11 to 14

Are you looking for a meaningful way to earn service hours for your bar/bat mitzvah, National Junior Honors Society, Boy/Girl Scouts, college resume or just because you love lending a hand and making a difference?

Join Service with Purpose

Service with Purpose connects you to safe, interesting and meaningful experiences that rack up those service hours and help your Jewish community in so many ways. Check out your options below and let us know which one you want to work on!

Here’s how to register:

Choose one of the options below. Ensure that the dates work for you before signing up. You will receive an email confirmation with a zoom link for the kick-off session on Wednesday, April 13 from 6-7pm.

Option 1: Yad Ezra

Participate in hands-on service with Yad Ezra's Giving Gardens! The garden programs educate our community about the concept of farm-to-table food and offer resources and opportunities to encourage people to eat more fresh produce and be more self-sufficient. You will have two opportunities during the six-week program to work directly in the greenhouse and garden and see firsthand the impact it is making in our community!

Dates: Tuesday, April 26 5-7 PM (in person volunteering at Yad Ezra) and Tuesday, May 10 5-7 PM (in person volunteering at Yad Ezra)

Option 2: Detroit Community Fridge

Join us for hands-on service with the Detroit Community Fridge. The Detroit Community Fridge offers a form of mutual aid to support residents in need of food and resources in the city of Detroit. During this 6-week program, you will learn about mutual aid, the Detroit Community Fridge, and many ways to support residents in the City of Detroit. You will also have an opportunity to make a meal with your family to be delivered to the fridge, as well as 1 collaborative cohort cooking session. You will be able to deliver your meals directly to the Detroit Community Fridges if you choose to.

Dates: Students to drop off prepared meals April 28 4:30-5:30 PM at the Federation building and in-person cooking session May 11 4:30-5:30 PM at Federation

Option 3: Brilliant Detroit

Looking for a way to participate more remotely? Help support Brilliant Detroit families by collecting specific book titles for expecting and new moms! Brilliant Detroit is dedicated to building kid success families and neighborhoods where families with children 0-8 have what they need to be school ready, healthy and stable. They do this by providing proven programming and support year-round out of Brilliant Detroit homes in high-need neighborhoods. We will provide you with a specific list of requested items and you can use social media or your network of friends and family to help collect the items.

Dates: Virtual book drive with drop off May 24, 4:30 - 6 PM downtown
